A website builder with a shop, or a shop-first platform.

This is the honest centre of the comparison. The two products have different centres of gravity.

Wix is a website builder that grew a shop. Its editor remains one of the best pure design tools in the mainstream market. If your site is mostly pages (a portfolio, a restaurant, a services business) with some products attached, that's a real advantage and you should weigh it seriously.

Orbit is a shop that comes with a builder. The catalogue, checkout, subscriptions and inventory were designed together as the core of the product, with a page builder that competes on function rather than fame. When the products are the business, the differences show up in the operational layer: unlimited products against a 50,000 cap, 100GB to 1TB of storage against 50GB on entry commerce, multi-warehouse inventory, and card rates that improve as you grow instead of staying flat.

Where the money actually goes.

Wix's plans look cheaper on the page. The small print and the card rate are where the totals move.

Wix's commerce plans are Core at £16, Business at £25 and Business Elite at £119 a month. Three pieces of small print matter more than the numbers. Those are annual-billing prices, paid up front in full. The £16 plan is a £192 invoice on day one. They're quoted excluding VAT, so a non-VAT-registered seller pays 20% more than the page suggests. And Wix doesn't publish its monthly-billing UK prices on the pricing page at all. They surface only at checkout.

Orbit's plans are £25, £85 and £249 a month, or £19, £64 and £187 billed yearly. Both published, next to the card rates.

The card rate is where a growing shop feels it. Wix Payments charges a flat 2.1% + 20p on UK cards at every tier. Simple, but it never improves. Orbit's published rates step down with your plan: 2% + 25p, then 1.7% + 25p, then 1.5% + 25p online. At £100,000 a year of sales, the flat rate gives away roughly £270 a year against a mid-tier stepped rate, and the gap widens every year your shop grows. At small volumes it's noise. The point is which direction it moves as you succeed.

One more gate worth knowing: Wix's memberships and paid-plans feature takes 4% on Core, 2% on Business and 0% only on the £119 Elite tier. On Orbit, subscriptions with failed-payment recovery are part of the Team plan. No percentage of your recurring revenue changes hands.

Who should pick which.

Different businesses, different right answers. Here's our honest take.

Choose Orbit Commerce if…

  • The shop is the business: real catalogue, real volume, and you want the operational depth (unlimited products, multi-warehouse inventory, serious imports).
  • You want card rates that improve as you grow instead of a flat 2.1% forever.
  • You sell subscriptions and don’t want a platform taking 0–4% of recurring revenue by tier.
  • You want UK-first: pounds, published VAT-clear pricing, UK gateways and couriers, support in your timezone.
  • You want monthly billing that’s actually published, not surfaced at checkout.

Wix may fit better if…

  • The website is the product and the shop is the sideline: content-led, design-led, up to a few hundred products.
  • Your team already lives in Wix’s editor and the design workflow matters more than the commerce depth.
  • You want one tool for a services site, bookings and a small store, and you’re happy paying annually up front.

Moving from Wix, without losing your rankings.

Switching platforms sounds scarier than it is. Here's what actually moves.

Products and customers export from Wix as CSV, and Orbit's importer takes CSV or Excel files with as many rows as you have. Products land with variants and images mapped, and customers keep their details. Order history and URL structures move less cleanly out of Wix than out of shop-first platforms, so redirects are set up for whatever ranks before you switch. That's the part of replatforming that most often goes wrong.

Run the import from your dashboard and point your domain when you're ready. Or book a free migration call and walk your catalogue through it with our team first. Email and live chat support are included on every plan; see pricing for what each plan includes.
